Brandon Sheppard moved to the lead near the halfway point of Wednesday night’s DIRTcar Racing Late Model feature, and went on to score the victory in DIRTcar Nationals action at Florida’s Volusia Speedway Park.

Sheppard powered forward from his fourth place starting spot, and by lap 10 began working to get around Brian Shirley for the lead.

The duo battled side-by-side, swapping the lead several times before Sheppard finally took the lead for good.

From there, Sheppard drove to the win and a coveted Gator Trophy.

Zebulon, Georgia’s Shane Clanton finished in second, with Shirley in third, Darrell Lanigan in fourth and Rodney Sanders in fifth.

Donny Schatz, Tyler Erb, Tim McCreadie, Jason Fitzgerald and Chris Madden rounded out the top ten.

In DIRTcar UMP Modified action, Nick Hoffman took the DIRTcar Nationals championship while J.E. Stalder, Jonathan Taylor and Jacob Hawkins scored wins in the triple feature races.

DIRTcar Nationals officials announced Wednesday afternoon that night nine of the event was cancelled due to heavy rains in the area. The DIRTcar Nationals will resume on Thursday, February 23.
