Ronnie McCarty turned in a dominating performance Friday by leading flag-to-flag en route to capture his third Late Model Stock Car feature win of the season at Tennessee’s Kingsport Speedway.

“This win is very special for our race team,” said McCarty. “My hero, my dad (Ron McCarty), he’s been battling some health issues and I’m just very thankful he was able to be here tonight.

“Before we went out to line up for the race, I told myself that I was going to win the race and dedicate it to my dad. It’s just awesome how smoothly our race went. We got out front and that was it, our car was very good.”

Kres VanDyke earned the pole award with a fast-lap at 15.239 seconds, but would start from the fifth position on the invert for the 60-lap main feature.

McCarty and Zeke Shell led the 15-car field to green from the front row, with McCarty powering out into the lead on the opening lap over Shell, Robbie Ferguson, Joey Trent and VanDyke. VanDyke passed Trent to take over the fourth spot on lap 4 between turns three and four.

McCarty was in command out front, but behind him Shell had Ferguson riding on his rear bumper with VanDyke, Trent and Wayne Hale in tow. Hale got around Trent for fifth place on lap 15 racing up off turn two.

With the race running clean-and-green, at the halfway distance McCarty had stretched his advantage to 10 car lengths over his challengers. During the final 30 laps, it became evident that the race belonged to McCarty unless he had mechanical problems.

While McCarty had the cruise control engaged out front, behind him it was a good four-car battle for position between Shell, Ferguson, VanDyke and Hale. VanDyke got under Ferguson with a couple of laps remaining, but Ferguson held his advances off to hold onto the position.

McCarty got the win over Shell in second, Ferguson in third, VanDyke in fourth and Hale in fifth.

Trent, Nick Williams, Rick Pannell, Steven Deskins and Jamie Harrison rounded out the top ten.

Mark Christian captured his second Street Stock victory on the season in convincing fashion, winning by a 5.028-second margin over Paul Shull. Nick Cole finished in third, with Chris Tunnell in fourth and Dennis Deese in fifth.

Kenny Absher held off his hard-charging teammate, Billy Byington, to record his first Pure 4 feature win of the season. Keith Helton finished third, with William Hale fourth and Kevin Darnell fifth.

In the Mod 4 feature, Jerry Miller jumped out to the lead at start and paced the field until the fifth lap when he spun between turns one and two, collecting Rocky Yates and Chris Amburgey in the incident. Both Yates and Amburgey were able to continue, while Miller’s race was over.

Back under green and Freddie Taylor, Jr. took the lead over Kevin Canter. But Taylor’s run out front was short-lived, as his engine erupted in smoke on lap 8 at end of the front straightaway. That brought out the red flag to allow race officials to clean oil off the racing surface.

Once the race restarted, Canter, would go on to capture his fourth victory of the season. Yates finished in second, with Larry Bowens in third, Jessie Amburgey in fourth and Chris Amburgey in fifth.

Jamie Meadows outran Marty Tunnell for his first Pure Street win of the season. Doug Austin, Dennis Arnold and Bobby Talbert rounded out the top five.

Dillon Hodge captured his first-ever Legends victory over Adam Roberson in second, Reece Bowers in third, Brandon Taylor in fourth and Carter Davison in fifth.
