Wilhelm Predicts Win, Takes Super Pro Final At Commerce

Hank Wilhelm predicted last Wednesday that he would win in Summit ET Drag Racing action on Saturday at the Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia for his parent’s wedding anniversary.

He did just that, scoring his first Super Pro division win of the season in the process.

Wilhelm, in his ‘96 Ed Quay Dragster, defeated Jeremy Hancock in his Chevy Dragster. In the final, Wilhelm ran a 5.099 ET on his 5.15 dial in (break out) at 134.36 mph and a great 0.008 reaction time, to Hancock’s 5.818 ET on his 5.15 dial in at 89.46 after a foul start of -0.022.

In the Pro final, Hunter Ramsey in his ’91 Camaro defeated George Mitchell in his ’70 Nova. Ramsey ran an 8.294 ET of his 8.25 dial in at 76.79 mph and a 0.028 reaction time. Mitchell ran a 6.646 ET on his 5.97 dial in at 77.73 mph and a 0.005 reaction.

Mike Newby, in his first race of the season, scored the win in the Sportsman finals, beating out Paul Cavanagh for the victory. Newby ran an 11.985 ET off his 11.86 dial in at 107.53 mph and a reaction time of 0.080. Cavanagh ran a 12.687 ET on his dial in of 12.51 at 113.15 mph and a 0.072 reaction.

During the semifinals Newby beat Randy Franklin in his ’79 Chevy C-10 truck and Cavanagh had a single into the final.

Randy Day on his Suzuki defeated David Fletcher on his Kawasaki in the Super Pro Bike final. Day ran a 5.996 on his 5.81 dial in at 109.73 mph with a 0.023 reaction. Fletcher had problems off the line and only ran 13.208 ET off his 5.88 dial in at 33.70 mph and a 0.202 reaction.

In the Street ET Bike final, Duffie Freeman defeated Jordan Autry on his ’11 Kawasaki. Freeman ran a 10.020 ET on his 9.89 dial in at 114.64 mph with a 0.023 reaction time. Autry ran a 9.458 ET off his 9.41 dial in at 141.45 mph and a reaction of 0.147.

Thirteen-year-old Jacob Wilson scored two wins on the day, as he was victorious in both the Junior Street class and the 13-18 Jr. Dragster finals.

In the Junior Street finals, Wilson, in his ’04 Chevy Truck, defeated 13-year-old Jackson Earwood in his ’02 Ford Truck. Wilson ran an 11.554 ET on his 11.53 dial in at 56.65 mph and a 0.093 reaction time. Earwood ran an 11.963 ET off his 12.05 dial in (break out) at 59.39 mph and a 0.317 reaction.

In the 13-18 Dragster final, Wilson ran a 7.973 ET on a dial in of 7.91 at 82.80 mph and a reaction of 0.158 to defeat 17-year-old Austin Carden. Carden ran a 7.916 ET off his 7.90 dial in at 82.25 mph but with a foul -.021 reaction.

Nine-year-old Aidan Anglin defeated Shawn Wilson (7) from Jefferson, GA in the 5-9 Jr. Dragster final. Anglin ran a 12.218 ET off his dial in of 12.53 (break out) at 49.99 mph and a 0.014 reaction time. Wilson ran a 15.536 on his dial of 15.30 at 36.22 but with a red light start of -.017 reaction.

In the 10-12 Jr. Dragster final, 10-year-old Shannon Blanton defeated Brycen Hartmann, age 12. Blanton ran an 11.207 ET on her 11.24 dial in at 59.47 mph with a 0.365 reaction time. Hartmann ran an 8.892 ET off his 8.94 dial in at 72.35 mph and a red light -.052 reaction.
