Colby Howard scored his third regular season Limited Late Model feature victory of his rookie year at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easley, SC Saturday night.

The 14-year-old was fastest in qualifying to score the pole for the 50 lap feature. On the drop of the green flag, Howard opened up a lead of over 2 seconds over the field. That lead evaporated when second place Tasha Kummer and third place R.J. West tangled on the frontstretch, bringing out the first caution of the race.

Once racing resumed, a torrid battle between Sheflon Clay and Anthony Miller for the fourth place, as duo raced side by side for several laps before Miller took the position.

Behind them, Kummer charged from the back of the field to sixth and tried to overtake Clay for fifth at the end but was unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, up front, Howard drove away to score the victory. Taylor Sorrow finished in second, with Luke Sorrow in third, Miller in fourth and Clay in fifth.

In the Renegade feature, Anthony Cordell was flagged the winner, but saw the victory go away in post-race tech for “illegal heads and hardware” according to race officials. That handed Bobby Emory the win. Alexx Breazele was moved to second, with Billy Brown third, Blake Gregory fourth and Brandon Ellison in fifth.

The Four-Cylinder feature was a barn burner. Don Tavernia took the lead at the green flag but ended up sideways in turn two and headed for the pit area, retiring from the event. Manual Molleda took command on the restart and thanks to some defensive driving, went on to earn the victory. Ray Mullinax, Michael Webster, Chad Redding and Jack Hooper rounded out the top five.

But the action wasn’t over, as Hooper spun just past the finish line after contact from Bobby Wortham. Hooper then refired his machine and took off going the wrong way down the front straightaway, slamming his car into that of Wortham just as the field was pulling into the turn four pit entrance.

Track officials immediately removed Hooper from the finishing order entirely and are considering further action.

The Pure Stock feature saw Buck Simmons grabbing the early lead and driving away to take the victory. Spencer Morgan finished second, with Charlie Meinders in third, Zack Meinders in fourth and Ashley Granata in fifth.

Tim Sams scored the win in the Super Stock feature, with Ken Guthrie in second, Ted Somero in third, Andy Norris in fourth and Travis Cox in fifth.

Next Saturday night, Greenville-Pickens plays host to the CARS Tour on Saturday, June 25 for a double header from the CARS Super Late Models and Late Model Stock Cars.
