Matt Bowling picked up his fourth win of the season at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, VA Saturday night, winning the 75-lap NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division race.

Bowling edged former NASCAR Whelen All American Series National Champion Peyton Sellers by .811-second in a six-lap dash to the finish that followed the last of the race’s four caution periods.

Danny Willis, Jr. finished third with Mark Wertz in fourth and Austin Thaxton in fifth.

Woody Howard, Terry Carroll, Justin Carroll, John Moore and Chuck Lawson rounded out the top 10 finishers in the 24-car starting field.

The race was a highly competitive one, with two lead changes among three drivers, with Bowling taking the lead for good with 25 laps to go.

The second race of the night’s scheduled twin 75-lap races was rained out.

Hupp Takes Pure Stock Division Win

Randy Hupp took the lead with two laps to go and edged Harrison Walker by .344-second to win Saturday night’s race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division that was reduced to 25 laps instead of the scheduled 30-lap distance as a result of numerous mishaps.

Bruce Mayo finished third, with Scott Phillips in fourth and Jordan Pickrel in fifth.

Chris Humblet Wins Modified Race

The father-son duo of Jimmy Humblet and Chris Humblet battled for supremacy in Saturday night’s 25-lap Modified Division race, with the son, Chris Humblet, coming out on top.

Chris Humblet took the lead from his father on lap 15 and led the final 10 circuits in picking up the win to score his second triumph of the season.

Robbie Babb finished third with Robert Conner and Bobby Gary rounding out the top five.

Rain washed out the second race of the night’s scheduled twin 25-lap Modified Division races.

Mills Awarded Win In Budweiser Hornets Division Race

Kenny Mills, Jr. finished third in Saturday night’s Budweiser Hornets Division race, but later in the night, found out he was the winner.

The apparent race winner, Justin Dawson, and the apparent second-place finisher, Drew Dawson, were both disqualified by track NASCAR officials after their cars failed to pass a post-race technical inspection.

As a result, Mills was declared the winner.

The win was the first of the season for Mills, who became the fifth different winner in as many races in the division this season.

Robert Burgess was awarded second place with Todd Garnett third, Kevin Currin fourth and Stephen Trickey fifth.

Rain Washes Out Three Races

Rain that moved into the region forced South Boston Speedway officials to have to wave off three of the night’s scheduled races, including the night’s scheduled second 75-lap Late Model Stock Car race, the second of the night’s scheduled pair of 25-lap Modified Division races and the night’s 50-lap Limited Sportsman Division races.

Racing returns to South Boston Speedway on Saturday night, May 14. For more information, visit SouthBostonSpeedway.com.
