Michael Chilton survived rigorous driving conditions to claim his first Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series event victory at the Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY on Friday Night.

The Salvisa, KY native, who was a tour regular in 2013 and 2014, scored the $4,000 payday and became the 19th different winner in series history. He also became the fifth different winner in six races this season.

Fast qualifier and polesitter Cody Mahoney and Chilton brought the field to green in the 40-lap feature. Chilton held the point until Mahoney slipped past for the top spot. Chilton would grab the point back away from Mahoney on the 17th lap and drove away to the victory.

Five caution flags slowed the main event. On lap five, Chris Combs spun into the infield on the frontstretch. On lap 13, James Rice slowed in turn two to draw the caution. Johnny Wheeler stopped on the frontstretch on the 17th lap to bring out the third yellow flag. On lap 21, Mahoney stopped in turn three to bring out the next yellow. The final caution flag came out when Tommy Bailey came to a rest at the top of turn two with a blown tire.

The Spring Nationals Series was next slated to run on Saturday night at Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky, but that event was rained out and will not be made up.

The Series returns to action for the final three points races on May 27-29 with a Peach State triple header. On May 27, the tour will race at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia, before rolling into Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia on Saturday, May 28. The final Spring Nationals Series points event will be on Sunday, May 29 at Rome Speedway in Rome, Georgia.
