Derek Hagar made his first 2016 visit to the victory lane for the USCS Sprint Car Series Saturday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN.

Hagar, from Marion, Arkansas, charged from his outside the front row starting position past pole sitter Brandon Taylor from Cumming, Georgia into the lead in turn one and led every lap in the Sprint Car portion of the speedway’s “Rockin’ With The Stars” event.

The win is the 37th of Hagar’s USCS career, and makes him the sixth different winner in six races so far in the 2016 season.

While Hagar led every lap, that came with a challenge in lap traffic by Anthony Nicholson. After starting in the third position, Nicholson chased Hagar for most of the race, but had to settle for second place in the end. Terry Gray finished in third, with Morgan Turpen in fourth and Curt Terrell in fifth.

Nick Snyder, Terry Witherspoon, Aubrey Black, Brandon McLain and Jeff Willingham rounding out the top ten.

Turpen kicked off the night by winning the six-lap Hoosier Tire Speed Dash. Hagar scored a win in the first heat, while Marshall Skinner won the second heat. Skinner was the provisional pole starter after scoring the most passing points in heat race action. But after a six was rolled on the inversion, Taylor started from the pole.

The USCS Sprint Car Series returns to action on Friday and Saturday, May 13-14, when the series makes it’s first ever stop at Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, Georgia.
