Despite being delayed by a day for rain, Max Blair powered to the Crate Late Model victory in Friday’s Winternationals action at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL.
Blair made the pass near the halfway mark of the 35 lap feature, and went on to take home the $2,500 top prize.
Ken Monahan and Mike Pegher, Jr .brought the field to the green, with Pegher, Jr. taking the early lead. Meanwhile, Blair moved into the runner up position. The duo led the field through several cautions, and on lap 12, Blair would take the lead briefly. But one lap later, Pegher, Jr. regained the top spot.
The race was interrupted by a scary moment on lap 15, when Ralph Morgan, Jr. flipped, gathering up Jimmy Sharpe, Jr. and seven other cars. No one was injured in the incident.
When racing resumed, Pegher, Jr. held the lead for two laps before Blair took command. From there, he didn’t look back as he went on to score the win.
“I’ve won the RUSH Touring Series and had my biggest win, $20,000, in a Crate FASTRAK race, but I love it here at East Bay,” Blair said in victory lane.
Tim Dohm finished second, with Bryan Bernhardt third, Jason Welshan fourth and Doug Horton in fifth.
Mike Knight, Pegher, Jr., Jamie Slatton, Keith Nosbisch and Josh Peacock rounded out the top ten.
