LaMance Wins Lavonia, Parker Takes FASTRAK Title

Steve “Hot Rod” LaMance again proved why he’s the perennial man to beat at Lavonia Speedway – even when he goes topless.

The Six Mile, SC driver powered to the victory in the Georgia State Championships at the Lavonia, GA speedplant on Sunday, headlined by the FASTRAK Racing Series dirt Late Model season finale, which ran without roofs around the 3/8-mile clay raceway.

LaMance held off Zack Mitchell to pick up the win and the $2,000 first place check, while Belwood, NC’s Ron Parker scored the series championship and the $10,000 year end payday that goes with it.

LaMance and Mitchell would battle back and forth throughout the feature, which was slowed five times by cautions. While the lead duo fought for the top spot, several drivers worked their way through the field, each trying to not only contend for the win but to also put themselves in the best possible points position.

On the final restart, LaMance held the advantage over Mitchell, who tried several times to find a way around the veteran driver. In the end, it was LaMance taking the win, with Mitchell in second, Parker in third, Kenny Collins in fourth and David Smith in fifth.

David McCoy, Dillon Brown, Colby Cannon, Matthew Nance and Brent Hilton rounded out the top ten.

In other action over the weekend, Clayton Turner held off Mitchell Godfrey for the Hobby feature victory. Kenny Collins finished in third, with David McCoy in fourth and Kenny Peoples in fifth.

Mark Wilbanks scored the Modified Street feature win, with Michael Segars in second, Daniel Snow in third, Rusty Jordan in fourth and Keith Baker in fifth.

In the Monster Mini-Stock Association feature, James Mattison topped Austin Mintz for the win. Kevin Kelly, Kenny Dobbs and J.J. Garrett rounded out the top five.

Keith Teasley was the winner in the Stock 8 feature. Chase York was second, followed by Chris Harvell in third, Joeseph Teasley in fourth and Ray Foskey in fifth.

Matthew Furgerson was the winner in the Rookie 4 feature. Grantt Roberts was second, with Nathan Bowen third and Parris Simmons fourth.

Travis Jamison was first across the finish line for the Front Wheel Drive victory, with Jackie Holden second, Robbie Cook third, Kevin Cox fourth and Daniel Reynolds fifth.
