Chris Madden captured his second Southern Nationals Bonus Series victory of the season on Saturday night after battling Dale McDowell to take the win in the “Turkey Throwdown” at the quick 1/3 mile clay of Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA.

The win marked the third career series win for the Gray Court, SC pilot, and gave him a cool $5,000 payday.

Madden started the night from the pole, as he and McDowell, from nearby Chickamauga, GA, brought the field to the green flag. Madden took the early lead, and held the top spot until lap 13, when lapped traffic gave McDowell the chance to close the gap.

The duo battled back and forth for several laps, interrupted once for a caution on lap 28 when Jake Knowles slowed to a stop on the backstretch.

Madden and McDowell exchanged the lead five times officially, but the top spot was swapped several more times around the track. In the end, it was Madden edging out McDowell for the victory.

“That was a great race right there between me and Dale,” Madden said.

Jimmy Owens, finished in third, with Jason Hiett in fourth and Zebulon, GA’s Shane Clanton, fresh off of wrapping up the World of Outlaws Late Model Series championship, in fifth.

Chase Junghans, Woodstock, GA’s Jason Croft, Billy Ogle, Jr., Ray Cook and Stacy Boles rounded out the top ten.

The final event of the season for the Southern Nationals Bonus Series will be on Friday and Saturday, November 20-21 at Tennessee’s Cleveland Speedway for the $10,000-to-win for the 27th annual Gobbler 50.
