Wayne Hale claimed his second career Late Model Championship on Saturday at Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, VA. It marked his first title since 2007.

Hale visited victory lane twice this season en route to the 2015 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series track championship.

Hale was ecstatic with his return to the rank of champion.

“It feel great to be a champion again,” said Hale. “It’s been a long time coming.”

Hale ranks his season as an overall success.

“It’s been a good year, added Hale.” “We’ve been real consistent and won a few races. I thought I was dried up it had been so long. We’ve had a good season at both tracks and my brother (William Hale) winning the Rookie Pure 4 title just adds to it.”

Lance Gatlin and Kres VanDyke made up the front row for the start of 75-lap feature, with VanDyke grabbing the lead on the start. The field would be slowed under the yellow five times during the race but VanDyke would power to the lead each time. The race’s final caution waved on lap 67, setting the field up for an eight lap battle to the finish.

VanDyke would take the lead on the final restart, but Gatlin was hot on his trail. Gatlin would attempt several times to move VanDyke from the groove. VanDyke would pull away to claim his 12th win of the season.

“(We) had a good run,” said VanDyke. “Everything went pretty smooth.”

VanDyke also added that the race between him and Gatlin provided great entertainment for those in attendance.

“That was some good racing,” VanDyke said on the late-race battle. “Very exciting for the fans.”

Elby Harrison took the lead from Chris Tunnell on lap two of the Modified Street feature. Jared Broadbent would make his way into second-place on the same lap looking to secure the championship. The first caution would wave on lap six for a spin in turn. Broadbent would rocket around Harrison on the restart to take over the lead.

A spin in turn three would force the caution out again on lap 11. Broadbent and Joe White would battle for the top spot on the restart with White taking the position. White would lead the remainder of the race for his first win of the season.

Broadbent, with a second-place finish, would take the division championship.

Dan Hall grabbed the lead to open the Pure 4 race, with John Ketron taking over the top spot one lap later. Ketron would lead the remaining laps to capture his fourth win of the season, while Hall claimed the division championship.

Joshua Gobble took off to an early lead to start the Mod 4 race. Championship contender Rocky Yates would race his way into second-place by the third lap. Gobble would stall exiting turn two on lap four with mechanical issues, ending his night. Yates would inherit the lead.

The only caution of the event would wave on lap nine for a stalled car in turn one. Back under green, Yates would take the lead and go on to claim the win. The victory propelled him to the division championship.

Craig Phelps took to an early lead in the Rookie Pure 4 feature. William Hale would take over the lead with two laps remaining and drive on to claim the win, along with the division championship.

Marty Tunnell made a three wide move entering turns one and two on the opening lap of the Pure Street feature to take the lead. Tunnell would go on to score the victory, while Nasty Jones earned the division championship.
