Smooth and fast is hard to beat on the race track, and that is what Casey Roberts brought with him to Senoia Raceway’s season points finale on Saturday night. The Toccoa, GA hot shoe made his first appearance at the Senoia, GA raceway, and dominated the field to claim the $4,000 top prize winning the Metro Garage Doors 40 for the Super Late Models.

Roberts claimed the pole position for the special Super Late Model main, and was flanked on the front row by Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. Roberts elected to start on the outside of the front row, sensing that the high side was going to be the fast side when it came to green flag racing. His sense was perfect as he jumped to the lead right at the start and never looked back leading flag to flag.

Lloyd, Jr. held on to second until lap six when Austin Smith was able to work past. Lloyd faded as the laps continued, allowing Austin Horton to move up a spot and then Clint Smith on a mid-race restart.

Roberts masterfully moved through lapped traffic as Austin Smith chased him. Horton and Clint Smith battled for several laps before the four-time Southern All-Stars champion slipped past the 19-year-old rookie super late model driver. Clint Smith caught up Austin Smith, but could not get a good enough run to overtake him for second place.

Roberts won the race going away, with Austin Smith leading Clint Smith across the line in second. Kenny Collins came on over the final five laps of the race to overtake Horton for fourth place.

In the Limited Late Model feature, Tod Darda shot past pole sitter Chaz Haskins on the opening lap. Haskins tried to stay with Darda as the laps unfolded, while Matt Dooley, Glenn Morris and Joey Armistead battled for position.

Dooley used a restart early in the race to move past Haskins and began trying to chase down Darda. Dooley worked the top side while Haskins held ground on the bottom of the track. Just behind the trio of front runners, Morris raced with Collins, who had made his way past Armistead at the halfway point.

Darda held off all the challenges to win his 37th career Late Model feature at the track since it returned to a dirt surface in 2010. Dooley ended up in second ahead of Haskins, Morris and Collins.

Dylan Knowles passed Trey Wood on lap six of the Crate Late Model feature before cruising to his first win at the 3/8ths mile dirt track since the first week of June. Wood settled for the number two position ahead of Curtis Cline. Jack Mills finished in fourth and Sean Swetnam came home in fifth.

The B Cadet feature was led to green by Drew Larson and Matthew Knight. Larson faded after wobbling on the top side during the first couple of laps, but Knight held his position until the third lap when veteran racer Richard Goode set up the pass out of the fourth turn. Goode looked low and then slid to the high side to overtake the less experienced Knight. It was a move that proved to be the race winner, as Goode went on to post his first win at Senoia Raceway since last season. Parrish Duncan, Chris Arnett and Cindy Anderson rounded out the top five.

Scott Sherrer won the lap shortened Hobby Stock main event. Sherrer worked past Curtis Turner on lap five before a series of cautions forced race officials to shorten the race. Chris Steele was closing in on Sherrer, but could not muster enough steam to get past the leader on the final green-white-checker run. Ben Wells was third ahead of Jamie Simmons in fourth and Lee McElwaney in fifth.

Josh Roddy led the Bomber feature flag-to-flag, surviving a race that saw all but three cars head to the pit area prior to the checkered flag. David Johnson was second and Tim Harmon third.

Jason Treschl used a lapped car to gain the inside line on Joshua Hicks to snare the lead in the Legends Cars feature. Treschl then went on to win his second straight. Hicks finishedin second with Dennis Aiken in third.

James Stansel won his sixth Mini Stock feature of the season ahead of Jessica Still while most of the fans eyes were on the battle for the season points title between Robert Caldwell and Bo Chambers. The drivers came into the night separated by four points, with Caldwell leading the way. Chambers would need to finish one or two cars ahead of Caldwell to bypass him in the standings and claim the season title. Chambers’ car stalled on the initial start of the race and looked to be out of contention, but a quick push from the wrecker helped to refire his racer and back into the fray.

Chambers moved past Caldwell into the sixth place position at the halfway point of the race and then moved to fifth place passing Jamie Nicholson, Sr. One lap later, Caldwell followed suit working past Nicholson, Sr. and staying close enough to Chambers to stay in the points lead.

On lap 11, Chambers moved into fourth place as he slid past Nicholson, Jr., which allowed him to gain a one point advantage in the standings. The order did not change through the final four circuits of the race handing Chambers his first championship by a single point over Chambers.

Other point champions claiming titles on Saturday night included Clint Smith in the Super Late Models, Joey Armistead in the Limited Late Models, Bobby Mills in the Crate Late Models, Parrish Duncan in the B Cadets, Ben Wells in the Hobby Stock, Winford Minix in the Bombers and Jason Treschl in Legends.

Senoia Raceway will host the inaugural Monster Truck Mania on Saturday, October 10. Racing cards for the night will be announced soon.
