With $3000 on the line at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA Saturday night, Chickamauga, GA’s Dale McDowell made only his second visit to the track this season and it paid off in the end with a win in the Super Late Model feature in the track’s points season finale.

After setting fast time in qualifying, McDowell took the green flag from the pole and never looked back. Several drivers made serious attempts to catch and pass the leader, but to no avail. Luther Jenkins, starting second stayed within sight until his car began to fade ten laps in, giving the second spot to Jake Knowles, who came the closest to threatening McDowell.

On lap thirty 32, Knowles, Derek Ellis and Austin Smith flew down the backstretch three wide where Knowles and Ellis rubbed together causing flat tires on both racers ending their night. This left Smith in second where he would finish. Jason Croft came across the line third, with Tyler Millwood in fourth and Aaron Ridley in fifth.

In other action, it was Mario Gresham taking the victory in the Steel Head Late Model feature, as he led Brian Jackson to the checkered flag. Jason Smith crossed the line in third, followed by Alan Brewer in fourth and Chuck Padgett in fifth.

With it being Championship race night for in the Crate Late Models, Jimmy Thomas took the win, holding off pressure from Tom Maddox, who finished in second. Shane Smith finished third ahead of Zach Pilcher in fourth. Larry Harrod, in his first ever appearance at Dixie Speedway, followed in fifth.

Andy Morris took another Super Bomber feature win, with Brant Hardin, Daniel Brewer, Austin King and Randall Powell rounding out the top five.

For the second week in a row, the Economy Bomber feature resembled a bumper car ride more than a race, as cars kept spinning and bringing out multiple cautions, causing their feature to be cut shot due to the time limit. Dan Meadows had a comfortable lead and took the win, followed by Kyle Beavers in second, Wes Chavez in third, Richard Bagby in fourth and Dalton Polston in fifth.

The closest race of the night came in the Pony Stock feature, as Mitchell Pope and Jamie Cross came upon the lapped car of Charles Whitmire at the finish line, causing the drivers to cross the line three wide. Pope edged out Cross by a bumper for the win leaving Cross with a disappointing second. Bo Jordan finished third, with Jason Berrong in fourth and Ronnie Faucett in fifth.

It was Anthony Pittman taking the Cruiser win ahead of Randy Ledford in second, George Wilson in third, John Sexton in fourth and Edwin Scott in fifth.

Dixie Speedway returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 12, with a full race program, headlined by a $2,000 to win Super Late Model feature, along with driver’s awards presentations.
