Wayne Hale and Kres VanDyke captured NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car victories Saturday at Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, VA.

Hale picked up the victory in the first Late Model Stock race and VanDyke took home the hardware in the second 35-lap feature.

Lance Gatlin qualified on the pole position for the first Late Model Stock race of the night. VanDyke pulled to the lead to open the 35-lap feature, and held the top spot until lap 33 when Hale dove to the inside. Hale would pull ahead of VanDyke as the two raced to the white flag and into turns one and two. Exiting turn two, Hale would pull ahead and drive on to capture the victory.

“We had a really good car,” said Hale. “It was hooked up on the bottom like back in the old days. I have to thank my team and sponsors.”

An inversion of four positions from the finish of the first feature placed Adam Gray on point for the night’s second LMSC feature.

Lance Gatlin took the lead on the opening lap with VanDyke and Hale moving quickly into second and third place respectively. Debris on the end of the backstretch forced the yellow flag to be displayed.

With the racing surface clear, the field took the green flag with VanDyke overtaking Gatlin for the top spot. The caution would wave again on lap 23 for debris at the exit of turn 2. VanDyke would charge back to the lead on the restart and drive on to his 10th victory of the season.

“We had a good car both races but we did some work after the first,” said VanDyke. “We worked really hard to get this one.”

“I want to congratulate Wayne (Hale) on winning the first race,” added VanDyke. “He deserved it.”

In other action, Jared Broadbent would quickly pull to the lead on the opening lap of the Modified Street feature. A spin on the backstretch would bring the field under the yellow flag on the sixth circuit. Broadbent would regain the lead on the restart, but contact between Jamie Meadows and Terry Stone would send Stone hard into the outside wall and force the yellow back out.

On the restart, David Brown would battle with Broadbent, with Broadbent powering back to the lead on lap seven. Mitch Gibson pulled to the inside of Broadbent with four laps remaining. Gibson would complete the pass and take the victory.

However, Broadbent would be awarded the trophy after Gibson did not participate in post-race inspection.

Jackie Jackson pulled to an early lead to open the Pure 4 feature. The first caution waved on lap three for a crash in turn two. Set for the restart, John Ketron would rocket to the lead. Debris on the frontstretch would place the field under yellow flag conditions.

Jay Swecker would inherit the lead on the restart, but Ketron would grab the lead on lap 18 and never relinquished the spot for the win.

Joshua Gobble took advantage of a missed shift by Rocky Yates late in the going of the Mod 4 feature, and drove away to the win.

Duke Bare took the lead in the Pure Street race from Nasty Jones on lap 11 and led the remaining laps to claim the victory.

Michael Nelson was flagged the winner in the Rookie Pure 4 division but after failing the post-race inspection process, William Hale was awarded the win.
