Every year in short track racing, as the season winds down and point championships are being decided across the country, every track experiences an increase in protests being lodged against the night’s winners.

There was no exception Saturday night at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock GA, when the rear tires on Shawn Chastain’s car were protested at the end of the Super Late Model feature. Due to the tires being sent off for lab work, it took until Friday afternoon for Chastain to be declared as the official winner after lab tests showed his tires were legal.

The feature started with Dale Thurman taking the lead from the pole. Thurman held off the challenges of Johnny Chastain in the opening laps, then held off Jason Croft for several more turns.

Meanwhile, Shawn Chastain, starting ninth, methodically made his way through the field and into the second place by the time the race reached the one-third mark. Thurman and Chastain held a side by side battle for first with Chastain taking the lead for good in the closing laps. Thurman’s ride began to fade and allowed Jason Croft to move up to second with Frank Ingram following behind to take third as the checkers flew. Thurman held on for fourth trailed by T.J. Reaid in fifth.

Chastain currently holds a four point lead over Reaid in the Super Late Model points chase.

It was Championship night for the Steelhead/525 Division and Don Jenkins was looking at a disappointing, very distant second. Protests were lodge at the end of the race, and Jenkins was declared the winner due to illegal fuel in the car of the apparent winner. Jenkins took the official win followed by Chuck Padgett in second, Michael Page in third, Levi Hicks in fourth and Chris Sizemore in fifth.

Shane Smith took his third Crate Late Model win in three straight weeks and moved into the points lead over Zach Pilcher. Smith led flag to flag ahead of Jake Jones in second, Mark Page in third, Pilcher in fourth and Hunter Jones in fifth.

In the Super Bomber feature, Randall Powell scored his third win of the season over Daniel Brewer in second, points leader Andy Morris in third, Brant Hardin in fourth and Rodney Vollrath in fifth.

It was a bumper to bumper finish in the Economy Bomber feature, with Landon Bagby holding off Dalton Polston for the win. Chris Neese made his way through the field for third with Seth Lacey in fourth and Kyle Beavers in fifth.

Jamie Cross took his 10th Pony Stocks feature win in a row over Mitchell Pope, Jason Berrong, C.J. Dettmar and Wee Wee Reed.

George Wilson finally ended his win drought as he took his first win of the season in the Cruiser feature ahead of Edwin Scott in second, Randy Ledford in third, Anthony Pittman in fourth and Jimmy Wilson in fifth.
