Franklin Grabs Southern Nationals Victory At Screven

Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, SC scored his eighth career Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series feature event Saturday Night at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, GA, earning the Palmetto State driver a $5,300 payday.

Fast qualifier and Dash winner Chris Ferguson and Ivedent Lloyd brought the field of 22 to the green flag for the main event with Ferguson to the point. Casey Barrow spun on the opening lap in turn two and that set a complete restart for the field. Once the field took the green they went 53 laps caution free from start to finish.

As the race reached lap 31, Franklin and Austin Smith race side-by-side for the second spot, with and Franklin taking the position when Smith slipped coming off of turn four.

On lap 35, Franklin would make the pass on Ferguson for the top spot, with Smith following shortly after. In the final stages of the race, Smith could only get within a stone’s throw of Franklin but was unable to to make the pass.

Franklin went on to take the win, with Smith in second. Ross Bailes finished in third, with Ferguson in fourth and Lloyd, Jr. in fifth.
