Dexter Canipe, Jr. Claims Late Model Victory At Hickory

Dexter Canipe, Jr. took the lead on a late race restart, and drove away to score the Bojangles Late Model feature win Saturday night at Hickory Motor Speedway in Newton, NC.

Canipe, Jr. started the night by setting fast time in qualifying, and would lead the field down to the green falg with Ashley Huffman on the outside. Canipe would move into the top spot early on, with Matt Piercy and A. Huffman giving chase. The caution would fly on lap 38 when A. Huffman spun off turn four, resetting the field.

On the restart Canipe would grab the lead, with Landon Huffman passing Piercy for second. From there, Canipe would go on to score his second win in the last three races. L. Huffman finished in second, with Piercy third, Shane Lee fourth and A. Huffman in fifth.

In other action, Eddie Gilbert would start on the pole for the Sportsman Racing Classics vintage racers feature and would battle early with Larry Benz. Don Fenn worked his way up to Gilbert late in the race and made the pass for the lead. Fenn went on to claim the victory, with Gilbert in second, Bill Webb in third, Benz in fourth and Dennis Hinkle in fifth.

Cody DeMarmels paced the early laps of the Street Stock feature. Kevin Townsend would challenge repeatedly during the race, eventually leading to a photo finish at the line. DeMarmels would hold on for the win while Townsend would take second. Larry Mosher, Kevin Eby and Tyler McKinney rounded out the top five.

Monty Cox set fast time in qualifying for the T-Mobile Limited Late Models with Spencer Boyd starting to his outside. Cox grabbed the early lead, but Boyd would soon pressure him and take the top spot . Boyd would go on to take the win. Cox finished in second, with Travis Byrd in third, Jeremy Pelfrey in fourth and Hayden Humphrey in fifth.

Clint Fields jumped to the early lead in the Smokey’s Super Trucks feature, went on to score the victory. Tyler Dayton finished in second, with Allen Huffman third, Sheflon Clay fourth and Tal Davidson fifth.

Hickory Motor Speedway returns to action on Saturday, June 20, with the Bojangles Late Models, T-Mobile Limited Late Models, Street Stocks and a 4-Cylinders scheduled to compete.
