The father and son racing team of Joe Armistead, Jr. and Joey Armistead doubled up the victories on Saturday night at Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA, as the second and third generation drivers nabbed feature wins in the Super Late Model and Limited Late Model respectively.

It was the first time the team swept the action as the seventeen-year-old Joey Armistead won for only the second time in his Limited Late Model career. It was the high schooler’s second straight week in Senoia Raceway’s victory lane.

“I am excited,” said the elder Joe Armistead, Jr. in victory lane. “Great night for the team.”

Armistead, Jr. had watched his son win the previous week at Senoia Raceway, but had been shut out himself at the track so far this season. Armistead, Jr. changed that on Saturday night as he shot out to the lead from his outside pole position on lap one besting the top qualifier of the night, Clint ‘Cat Daddy’ Smith. Senoia’s Smith had won four of five features this season at Senoia Raceway in the Super Late Model division.

“I want to beat him (Smith),” posted Armistead earlier in the week on the track’s social media site. “He makes all of us race better.”

Armistead and Smith pulled away from the field through the final stages of the race leaving fans to watch a great race for the number four position Cody King and 18-year-old Matt Dooley swapped the fourth place position four times before the checkered flag fell over the field. Armistead won with Smith in second, ahead of Ricky Williams in third. King won the final charge for fourth place leaving Dooley in fifth.

Joey Armistead kept the checkered flags coming in for the family racing team with a dominating win in the Limited Late Models. Armistead bolted out to a lead he would never relinquish for his second consecutive win at his hometown track. Tod Darda would finish in second, with Austin Horton third, Shane Criswell in fourth and Glenn Morris in fifth.

Chris Steele led the first 18 laps of the Hobby Stock feature, holding Mableton’s Ryan Ray at bay until the fourth turn coming to the white flag. Steele pushed up the track, coming back down to a collision with Ray in which neither driver was going to give up. The result was the two drivers slamming the inside concrete wall. Third place runner Sam Carter slid past while the remainder of the field crashed and smashed into the pile up just past the flagstand. All drivers involved were ok, but cars were badly damaged in the six car accident.

Carter would win the one lap dash for the money with Jonathan Archer securing the number two spot. Chad Foster ended up third ahead of Clyde Alexander in fourth and Joshua Allen in fifth.

“It’s been a tough couple of weeks for us,” said Carter in victory lane. “It feels good to get the win tonight.”

Bubba Harry was involved in an early race crash and placed to the rear of the field for the Legends Car main event. That did not slow the former national Legends car champion as he worked his way back through the field and overtook race leader Jason Treschl on lap 10. Harry then held off another former national champion, Dwight Pilgram, to log his second win of the season at Senoia Raceway. Treschl would finish in third ahead of L.J. Klemons in fourth and Robbie Woodall in fifth.

Dylan Knowles won his third straight Crate Late Model feature and fifth of the year with Zach Shelton finishing in second.

Michael Coggins looked like he had scored his first B Cadet victory, but post-race inspection found the engine in his race car was not legal for B Cadet competition. The win was handed over to Wesley Lyle, with Parrish Duncan, Bubba Gorman, Johnny Stinchcomb, and Cindy Anderson rounding out the top five.

Tech inspection also was a factor in the Bomber division where Alex Rudolph was disqualified after inspectors found illegal lifters. The win was awarded to Winford Minix, with Chris Arnett in second, Jim Jackson in third and Blake Harmon in fourth.

This summer racing season kicks off this Saturday, as Senoia Raceway presents the Summer Season Opener with eight divisions of racing action, including the Super Late Models, Limited Late Models, Crate Late Models, B Cadets, Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks, Bombers and Legends.
