Ryan Takes First Hickory Late Model Stock Victory

After a frustrating season opener, Payton Ryan took the lead with 10 laps to go in Saturday night’s Bojangles Late Model Stock feature, and went on to score the win at Hickory Motor Speedway in Newton, NC.

Matt Piercy and Dexter Canipe, Jr. would lead the field to the green flag. Canipe, Jr. would lead the opening lap, but Piercy would quickly overtake him and put some distance on the field. Meanwhile, Ryan moved past Canipe and begin to inch closer to the leader.

Ryan would make his move on lap 40 to take the lead. Piercy would remain in striking range Ryan proved to be too much, as took the checkered flag to pick up his first Hickory Late Model stock victory. Piercy would hold on for the runner-up position, with Canipe, Jr. third, Ashley Huffman in fourth and Landon Huffman in fifth.

In other action, The T-Mobile Limited feature saw Zach Bruenger taking the victory over Travis Byrd. Charlie Watson finished third after a tough battle for the lead with Bruenger. Jeremy Pelfrey finished fourth with Dylan Ward in fifth.

Sheflon Clay would lead the Smokey’s Super Trucks field to the green for their first feature of the season. Clay would face several challenges from Landon Huffman and Tyler Dayton, but it would be Clay scoring the win. Dayton finished in second, with Huffman third , Whitney Lail fourth and Dakota Ratcliff in fifth.

Kevin Eby would have to fend off challenges from Mark Whitten and Cody DeMarmels before scoring the Street Stocks feature victory. DeMarmels, Whitten, Larry Mosher and Marshall Sutton rounded out the top five.

The Classic Sportsman Racing Association would once again bring their fan favorite classic hotrods to Hickory Motor Speedway.

Larry Benz would set the pace for the Classic Sportsman Racing Association field, and would eventually outlast the field, after an early race incident with Don Fenn. Fenn would spin and work his way back to the front, finishing second. Bill Webb finished in third, with Tom Fenn in fourth and Tim Gilbert in fifth.

Next up, the Koma Unwind Modified Madness Series will make their first visit of the year to Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday night, sharing the bill with the Allison Legacy Series and the East Coast Flat Heads.
