Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA opened up its 2015 season bringing back the Super Late Model Southeastern Classic after several years absence. The first race was held in 1978 as a 150 lap event held at the end of the season, with Dirt track Hall of Famer Charles Hughes of Dalton, GA capturing the first victory. Legendary drivers such as Larry Moore, Bud Lunsford, Mike Duvall, Gar Dickson and Ronnie Johnson would take home the trophy until the race was discontinued in 1986.

On Saturday night, Jason Hiett, of Oxford, AL added his name to the illustrious history of the event, leading from the top of the green flag and holding off all challenges to score the win.

With new clay on the legendary 3/8 mile track, several side by side battles developed throughout the field in the top ten. Ray Cook had raced his way into second at the halfway point and began to set his sights on the leader. Making several unsuccessful attempts at the lead, Cook waited for the final lap to make another move but came up half a car length short at the checkered flag. Former track champion Donald Mcintosh of Dawsonville, GA made his way up to third followed by Shawn Chastain in fourth. Jake Knowles completed the top five after a three way race with William Thomas and Clint Smith. Rounding out the top ten were Dale Thurman, Jordy Nipper, and Austin Smith.

In other action, the Steel Head Late Models would stage an exciting race with the top three runners all battling for the lead. Jerry Coffman scored the win after the apparent winner was found light at the scales in post race inspection. In a close second was Tod Hernandez, followed by Michael Brewer in third, Jason Smith in fourth and Mike Bruner in fifth.

With Super Bomber feature would see long time racer Jerry Fowler take the win ahead of Willie Winsome, of Ketchem, AL in second. Andy Morris made his way from deep in the field to take third trailed by Justin Begley in fourth and Randle Powell in fifth.

Dalton Polston took his first career win at Dixie in the Economy Bomber feature, crossing the line ahead of Rome, GA’s Austin Smith in second. Completing the top five were Drew Larson, Ryan Ray, and Joe Trantham.

Travis Smith suddenly found himself the winner of the Pony Stock feature after the top two cars were both light at the scales in post race tech. Smith would get the win moving David Kirkland up to second.

Dixie Speedway returns to action on Saturday, March 28, featuring $3,000 on the line for the Crate Late Models in a Championship race, along with Super Late Model action. For more info, visit DixieSpeedway.com.
