All of those tough nights of racing paid off for David Garbo, Jr. Thursday when he captured his first career Super Late Model win at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, FL.

The 18-year old Stonington, CT native took home the checkered flag in the 50-lap Super Late Model feature during the seventh night of the 49th Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.

Garbo started the race in sixth, but quickly made his way to the front of the pack despite five cautions and one red flag. Garbo took control of the race on lap 20 when he slipped past Garrett Jones for the lead, and never relinquished the top spot despite constant pressure from Christopher Bell and Harrison Burton, who finished second and third.

Garrett Jones, Zane Smith, Ty Majeski, Alex Labbe, Dawsonville, GA’s Spencer Davis, Natalie Decker and Denver Foran rounded out the top 10.

Chili Bowl winner and K&N Pro Series East newcomer, Rico Abreu finished 14th.

Ryan Preece continued his dominance in the Tour Type Modifieds after winning the 35-lap feature. The 24-year-old from Berlin, CT, is now three for five at the 2015 World Series at New Smyrna.

Preece gained control on lap 21 after passing J.R. Bertuccio, Jr., who finished third. Chuck Hossfeld earned the second finishing spot.

Wednesday night’s winner in the Eric John Blewett III Memorial, Eric Goodale, finished fourth and Jimmy Zacharias placed fifth.

In the Florida Modified feature, Doug Moff earned his first win of the year after passing second place finisher Kevyn Terry shortly after the green flag. Moff lead all 35-laps in the race and became the fifth winner of the Florida Modifieds in five races this week.

Kevyn Terry, Ricky Moxley, Tim Moore and Cody Allen rounded out the top five.

Dalton Armstrong added a second consecutive Pro Late Model win in the 100-lap Pro Late Model feature Thursday night. Armstrong led all but one lap in the race, with Austin Nason overtaking Armstrong for a single circuit. Spencer Davis finished in second, with Derek Scott, Jr. third, Gainesvlle, GA’s Fredrick Moore in fourth and Sheldon Creed in fifth.

Racing at New Smyrna will continue Friday night, highlighted by the final 35-Lap Pro Late Model feature and the crowning of the champion in that division. On Saturday, the Super Late Model champion will be crowned after the final 100-lap feature.
