David Ragan Leads Early SpeedFest Entries At ‘The Melon’

The first group of entires for the upcoming CRA SpeedFest 2015 at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, GA have come in, and includes NASCAR drivers, as well as some of the top short track talent in the country for the asphalt Late Model weekend, set for Jan. 24-25.

SpeedFest 2015 will once consist of a 200 lap ARCA/CRA Super Series Super Late Model special non-points event and a 125 lap JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Pro Late Model special non-points event. The 200 ARCA/CRA Super Series event will have a break at lap 100 and will count yellow flag laps up to lap 175. The 125 lap JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour event will be a four tire only event and will count yellow flag laps up to lap 100.

NASCAR Sprint Cup competitor David Ragan tops the list of entries to date for the 200 lap ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS event with SpeedFest 2015. Ragan is still looking to get his first CRA win and would love nothing more than to get that win at Watermelon Capital Speedway, which is located just down the road from his hometown Unadilla, GA. Ragan led the first nine laps of last year’s event, before being passed by eventual winner Chase Elliott, but did get a fourth place finish. Ragan finished seventh in the event in 2013 and third in 2012.

Other entries to date for the 200 lap Super Late Model event with SpeedFest 2015 include John Hunter Nemechek, son of NASCAR veteran competitor Joe Nemechek and winner of the Snowball Derby in December. Harrison Burton, the 14 year old son of NASCAR legend Jeff Burton, is also entered. Both those drivers will pull double duty competing in both feature events with SpeedFest. A couple of other NASCAR Drivers sons are entered, Kyle Grissom, son of former NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion Steve Grissom and Todd Gilliland, son of NASCAR Sprint Cup competitor David Gilliland are both entered for the SpeedFest 200.

Former Michigan native Chad Finley, who recently relocated to North Carolina, leads a strong group of Northern drivers entered. Finley is always a tough competitor and is a four time winner with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. Indiana native Paul Shafer, Jr., who finished fourth in 2014 ARCA/CRA Super Series points, is entered along with fellow Indiana native Dalton Armstrong, fourth place finisher in the 2014 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour points. Ohio native Brandon Oakley, who picked up his first ever ARCA/CRA Super Series win this past September, is entered. Michigan driver Jordan Pruitt is also entered.

Canadian Dominique Van Wieringen, a former winner in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour, is entered in her first Super Late Model event for NEMCO Motorsports. Georgia native Scotty Ellis is entered, along with North Carolina racer Cole Timm, a winner with the PASS South Series in 2014 and ARCA Racing Series regular Austin Wayne Self from Texas, who will also do double duty.

Other drivers entered for the 125 lap JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Pro Late Model event include Ohio native Kody Evans, Missouri’s Joe Ross, Texas native Derek Scott, Jr. and Georgia natives Brandon Brilliant, Dalton Grindle, Riley Thornton and Chandler Smith.

Additional entries for both events are expected to continue to arrive over the next two weeks leading up to the event.
