WHEEL, TN – The weather may have been cold, but Riley Hickman was red hot, as the Chattanooga, TN wheelman powered to the win in the Deep Fried 75 at Duck River Raceway Park Saturday night for the Southern Nationals Bonus Series.

Hickman drove from the outside front row starting spot past veteran Ray Cook on the opening lap and never looked back en route to the win. Hickman drove a nearly perfect race, mastering the many restarts and using lapped traffic to his full advantage for the 75 lap distance.

Second place finisher Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA, never posed a threat to the race winner. McDowell was able to fend off a challenge from Steve Casebolt in the late stages. Casebolt would end up third in the final rundown. With the restarts putting Hickman the single car out front, the double file rows behind him were left to battle among themselves.

The race was slowed a total of seven times for minor crashes and spins. There were no injuries. Twenty four cars started the race, but only 14 were still on the track when the checkered fell in the race, which took 45 minutes to run.

Local favorite and multi time winner at Duck River, David Earl Gentry, was the first car to retire, completing only 4 laps.

Dennis Erb, Jr., another pre-race favorite rolled off from the fifth starting position, but lasted only 11 laps before stopping on the track and being pushed back to the pit area with mechanical woes.

Fourth place went to Josh Putnam, the defending race winner. Anthony Burroughs finished fifth, while Austin Smith took home sixth and Cook would finish a disappointing seventh after starting on the pole. Eighth went to second generation driver Tanner English and Donald McIntosh followed him while Brian Divley would complete the top ten.

McIntosh, a Dawsonville, GA driver, had to transfer into the feature from one of two B-Main races. He brought his bright yellow #7 home in the third and final qualifying position, barely making it into the starting field. He was able to avoid multiple wrecks after starting deep in the field and had a respectable finish.

In other action, Todd Morrow won the 30 lap Crate Late Model feature from his pole position starting spot. The Chattanooga, TN driver lead the whole race. He took home a $1,500 check and was followed by Jay Brinkley, David Earl Gentry and Robert Stutts.
