CARTERSVILLE, GA – Chris Holley of Dayton, TX has clinched the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Championship with a 700 point “Perfect Season.” Holley clinched the $10,000 prize when his only challenger, Mike Palasini, Jr. of Leland, MS, was unable to compete in the Double Feature events on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

There was no fanfare, and no cheering crowds when Holley clinched the championship, as Holley’s home track, Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX was rained out on Saturday night. Holley was at work on his lunch break when he got the phone call from NeSmith Racing to notify him that he was the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion.

Palasini works on the family farm, and he told NeSmith Racing officials on Saturday afternoon that he was needed to cut soybeans and would be unable to make the trip to Talladega Short Track for the double features that he had to win to stay alive in the championship hunt. Palasini did take care of some other racing business on Saturday night, however.

After parking his combine for the day, Palasini made the ten minute trip from Palasini Farms to Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS where he drove the MP Trucking Special to his 12th win of the season. The victory netted Palasini two points to clinch the runner-up spot in the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings for the second straight year.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS was just four points behind Palasini going into the weekend, but he failed to net any points in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 25 competition. Palasini has a best 14 week total of 696 points. Arnold is still in the third spot with a best 14-week total of 690 points, but with two weeks left in the season, Arnold can only net five points with a 50-point win in each off the remaining weeks.

There are seven other drivers breathing down Arnold’s neck in the battle for the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings with just ten points separating third through tenth. Just one point behind Arnold are Delbert Smith of Wichita, KS and Ryan King of Seymour, TN who are knotted at 689 points apiece for their best 14 week totals.

Smith was unable to net any Week 25 points, as his home track, Salina Speedway in Salina, KS was rained out on Friday night. There will be a Week 25 Make Up Race for the Salina Speedway rainout this Saturday night at 81 Speedway in Wichita, KS. King finished second on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN and netted three points.

Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL drove the Adam Gauldin Racing GRT to his sixth NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season in the Week 20 Make Up Race Saturday night at Talladega Short Track and move into a tie for the sixth spot in the standings with Rusty Ballenger of Sevierville, TN, who finished third on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway.

Gauldin was able to net four points with his win, and Ballenger was able to net one point with his third-place showing. Gauldin and Ballenger each have a best 14 week total of 686 points and have a four-point advantage over the two drivers tied for the eighth-place spot with a best 14 week total of 682 points, Daniel Bridgmon of Meridian, MS and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS.

Neither Bridgmon nor Lee were able to net any NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points in Week 25 competition, but Lee did take a 40-point win on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS driving the Billy Riels Racing GRT.

Bridgmon and Lee maintain a two-point advantage over the tenth-place driver, Chris Kratzer of Haysville, KS, who has a best 14 week total of 680 points. Kratzer also was unable to net any points in Week 25 with the Salina Speedway rainout.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 25 action, Jason Trammell of Mascot, TN drove the Trammell Construction Special to his first win of the season, taking the $1,000 top prize on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway. Cliff Williams of Star, MS also collected $1,000 on Saturday night with his second win of the season in the I-20 Challenge Series Race at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS driving the Cliff Williams Plumbing GRT.

Cody Martin of Christiana, TN took his first NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season in the Week 25 race at Talladega Short Track driving the Martin Motorsports Warrior. Hunter Carroll of Columbus, MS was a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series first-time winner on Saturday night at Arkadelphia Speedway in Bremen, AL driving the FBG Motorsports Special.

Evan Taylor of Clarksville, TN was another first-time 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series winner at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN driving the Elite Motors Special. The Week 25 race schedule for Saturday night at Poplar Bluff Speedway in Polar Bluff, MO was rained out.

After 25 weeks of the 27-week 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season, a total of 469 different drivers have earned points. The complete NeSmith Chevrolet WRS point standings are posted on the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS web site.
