SENOIA, GA – Seventeen-year-old Matt Dooley removed the monkey from his back this past Saturday night at Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA, as he led flag to flag to claim his first ever Jodeco Auto Sales Late Model victory. Dooley held off all challenges from Austin Horton of Grantville to claim the win.

“We won at Senoia tonight. Finally,” said Dooley afterwards. “I can’t thank all my sponsors and everyone who helps me enough.”

Dooley jumped on the gas at the drop of the green flag beating Horton to the first turn. He used his top side momentum to snare the lead and then pulled away for a few laps. Near the halfway mark of the main event, Horton inched closer as Dooley closed in on lapped traffic. In a thread the needle move, Dooley slipped between the slowing ride of Newnan’s Craig Scott and the lapped car of Alabama’s Marc Gooden to insure his victory and keep Horton in the bridesmaid position for the second straight race. LaGrange’s Tod Darda ended up third ahead of Locust Grove’s Randy Brown, Jr. who blew an engine just as he came to the finish line.

Alabama’s Jake Sanders had never been to Senoia Raceway, but he made it look easy, besting a strong field of Newnan Bonding B Cadets. He pulled away on the green flag laps from multi-time winner Paul Holloway of Hampton. Holloway and Newnan’s Parrish Duncan could only get close when a caution would slow the field. The three would finish in the top three positions followed by Hampton’s Richard Goode and Dallas’ Andrew Moody in fourth and fifth.

Griffin’s Chad Foster could get close enough to bump Scott Sherrer, but the veteran short track pilot would not give up the top spot in the Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stock feature race. Sherrer held off everything the third year driver could muster to claim his second win of the season. Sherrer won over a dozen feature races in 2010 at Senoia. Valley, Alabama’s Jamie Land ran third with Brooks’ Mike Jenkins and Griffin’s Jonathan Archer rounding out the first five.

Bobby Arnold returned to Senoia Raceway and looked to be on a mission. That mission was completed as he led every lap of the A1 Hydraulics Bomber feature. The former Mini Stock champion out ran this season’s points champion in the Bombers, John Holcomb of Griffin, as Holcomb had nothing for Arnold. Griffin’s hot shot rookie Alex Rudolph finished in third ahead of Riverdale’s Mike Ray and Griffin’s David Johnson.

Harold Leath won his eighth feature of the season in the Senoia Drug Company Mini Stocks. Leath beat his brother Mark Leath for the second straight week. Senoia’s Robert Cladwell was third.

Racing returns to Senoia Raceway this weekend with the final points races for the Jodeco Auto Sales Late Models, Newnan Bonding B Cadets, Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stocks, A1 Hydraulics Bomber and Senoia Drug Company Mini Stocks. The fan favorite Legends Cars will also be on the racing card.
