Wragg, Bates, Teams Suspended For Aug. 16 GMP Race

JEFFERSON, GA – Outlaw Late Model drivers Matthew Wragg and Jason Bates have been suspended for their on-track actions and the actions of their teams following an incident during the Saturday, August 9 event at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, GA.

The incident arose when Bates spun Wragg coming off the fourth turn on the first lap of Saturday’s Outlaw Late Model feature. Wragg came to rest facing the wrong direction, and was struck by the oncoming car of Alex Leverett, who was an innocent victim of circumstance.

Wragg then traveled in the wrong direction up the frontstretch, making hard contact head-on with Bates, driving both cars into the outside wall. Both drivers were immediately disqualified. A melee between the two teams broke out in the garage area shortly thereafter.

The drivers – and members of their teams that evening – have been suspended for and will not be allow on GMP premises for the Saturday, August 16, 2014 Stockerama event.

The decision was made pursuant to the Gresham Motorsports Park rulebook sections F1 and F1H that read:

1. Penalties for violation of Gresham Motorsports Park rules are determined by the gravity of the violation and its effect on the fairness of competition, the orderly conduct of the event and the interest of stock car racing and the series. Such penalties may include, but are not limited to, Disqualification, Suspension of a membership or license privileges and fines. The series director may use the following as guidelines for imposition of penalties in the situations described below, but these guidelines shall not limit the authority of the series Officials.

1H. All drivers will be held accountable for the action of their crew and crew chiefs at all times.

There is no appealing the suspension for either driver or any of their team members.

Both Wragg and Bates will be able to request a return to competition at Gresham Motorsports Park as of Monday, August 18, 2014. The decision to allow either or both drivers and their teams to return to competition at Gresham Motorsports Park will be made pending a meeting with GMP officials to be held no later than Wednesday, August 27.
