JEFFERSON, GA – You name it and it’s happened to Bubba Pollard at the World Crown 300 presented by Victory Junction. From faulty transmissions to late-race wrecks, the unexpected has happened to the Senoia, GA racer in one of the few major short track events still on his must-win bucket list at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, GA.

In 10 prior starts in the World Crown, Pollard has led the race a total of six times for a sum of 188 laps, but no winner’s trophies have gone back to Senoia with him. Coming into this year’s World Crown on August 9, Pollard is the hottest driver with five wins and the point lead in the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco.

Five wins would be good enough for any other driver, but he’s eyeing a sixth in the one race that has eluded him thus far – the World Crown 300.

“We are not going to Gresham to worry about points,” said Pollard. “We want to win the World Crown 300. We have been so close so many times and it just makes us want one more. Perhaps being with in view of the checkered flag each of the last two years adds to it.”

Pollard was runner up to Chase Elliott in 2012 and to Preston Peltier in 2013. Those are his best two finishes to date in the 300-lap race.

Prior events have seen late-race wrecks, ignition boxes gone bad and other types of mechanical gremlins.

One of the more spectacular occurrences was in 2009 when a lapped car got Pollard crossed up and he ended up on his roof in the first turn. The stunned crowd was silent as it took Pollard a few minutes to climb from the car.

“I was hung upside down,” said Pollard. “It was not fun there for a few minutes, but the safety workers wanted me to take it easy getting out to make sure I was not hurt. Only the car was at the time.

2008 saw Pollard make up two laps the old fashioned way by racing the leader, but he ran out of time on his march forward and settled for 10th.

Pollard hopes to put all this behind him and win the biggest Super Late Model race in the state of Georgia. His biggest extra-distance win to date is the Rattler 250 at South Alabama in 2012.

“We know we are on the verge of winning a big race again,” said Pollard. “We were second at Berlin in a backup car. Maybe this will be our year for the Crown.”

Short track royalty is only way to describe the list of past winners at the World Crown. Dick Trickle, Mike Eddy, Darrell Waltrip, Rick Crawford, Bobby Gill, Dave Mader III, Freddie Query and Rich Bickle head the list of past World Crown winners and Bubba Pollard would like nothing more than to add his name to that illustrious list on August 9.
