HAMPTON, GA – Almost 300 competitors returned to the pit lane drag strip and thrilled patrons in Week 11 of O’Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags at Atlanta Motor Speedway. With four points races remaining as this week’s action began, the event was critical for multiple drivers in their chase for a season championship.

In the Domestic Advanced division, Jason Kinard of Hampton continued his dominance and cushioned his lead in the points standings. Behind the wheel of his 1997 Chevrolet S10, Kinard knocked off Vic Vickers of McDonough and his 1993 Ford Mustang for his fifth consecutive win, the most of any drags competitor this year.

“We knew we were going to have to turn it up just to beat him,” said Kinard. “So I turned it up a pretty good bit, it just so happened it stuck. It worked out good.”

A win on double points night next week for Kinard would almost certainly put the domestic advance division championship out of reach.

“Next week’s race is pretty important because if I get the double points nobody can catch me,” said Kinard. ‘There won’t be enough races left to catch me.”

Patrick Stansell of Hampton broke the tie with Jason Zaletankski of McDonough in the in the Tuner Division with an elimination round victory. Stansell and his 1989 Toyota Supra out raced Jose Samaniego of Jonesboro and his 1993 Honda Civic for the win. Stansell now holds a three point lead on Zaletankski for the Tuner Division lead.

Jimmy Clements of McDonough earned his first final round elimination win of the season in his 1973 Plymouth Duster as he knocked off two-time winner this season Andrew Morgan and his 1987 Ford Mustang in the Harding Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Domestic Division.

Dwayne Bethune of Covington behind the wheel of a 2006 Dodge 2500 added to his lead in the Diesel Truck Division points race with a win over Evan Roberts of Locust Grove. It was Robert’s first trip to O’Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags with his 2008 Ford F-250.

Drag racing continues at Atlanta Motor Speedway on August 1 for Week 12 of the O’Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags. It’s double points night and drag competitors will have an opportunity to make a jump in the point standings.
