MONTGOMERY, AL – Justin South scored his fourth Open Sportsman victory of the year at Montgomery Motor Speedway Saturday night as the Montgomery, AL track’s season reached the three-fourths mark.

Bill Bethea, III jumped out to the early lead, with Joey Holt and Jason Furrow in pursuit. Meanwhile, Justin Caton and South worked their way towards the front. Lap 10 saw Holt sidelined with brake issues. The caution flew on lap 14 when Gary Davis made contact with the inside wall coming of turn 2. The yellow flew again a short time later when Billy McCraney made hard contact with the turn 3 wall.

Meanwhile, South worked his way to the lead, with Caton in pursuit. South would go on to score the victory, with Caton in second, Furrow in third, Gary Nix in fourth and Bethea III in fifth.

In other action, the first race of the night featured the Modified Minis. Joel Collier jumped to the lead and looked to continue his winning ways as he fought of challenges from Chase Spradlin. The fight continued till lap 5 when Spradlin made the move to the top spot, bringing Chris Landers along with him. Mechanical woes struck Collier on lap 17 as an electrical issue ended his night. Landers stalked the leader, but a distributor problem sent his machine to the pits as the white flag flew. Spradlin went on to score the win.

Perry Patino and Dwayne Wesenberg battled side-by-side for the early lead in the Street Stocks feature, as the duo raced inches apart for the first eight laps. The battle was broken up when the caution flew for a spin by Bubba Nesbitt.

Back under green, Chance Atkins moved into the mix, while Wesenberg battled with Brad Edwards.

Several cautions tightened up the field, and on lap 22, Atkins made a three wide move that would prove to be the winning move of the night, as he drove on to victory. Patino finished in second, with Wesenberg in third, Joe Bethea, Jr. in fourth and Brad Edwards in fifth.

Montgomery Motor Speedway is back in action on August 9th as the Open Wheel Modified return, along with the MARS Motorcycles, Open Sportsman, Street Stocks and Modified Minis.
