Wilson Scores NeSmith Chevy WRS Victory At Talladega

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Jason Wilson of Margaret, AL, the 2006 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region champion, drove the RC2 Motorsports Special to his first win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 16 action.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS picked up a pair of wins and several other drivers used wins and top five finishes to advance themselves in the point standings as they battle for the $10,000 National Championship.

Arnold drove The Strength Center Special to his third NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS. The next night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS, the “Hattiesburg Hustler” collected the $1,000 top prize in the Highway 45 Challenge Series race with is fourth victory of the season.

With three more weeks to earn full points before reaching the 14-week mark of his season, Arnold sits just outside the Top 20 in the point standings, and could be a driver to watch in the next few weeks to see just how high he can climb on the points list.

Chris Holley of Dayton, TX took his ninth NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Saturday night at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX driving the Land Bridge Transportation Special. That vaulted Holley up the point standings with 548 points and into the eighth spot with three more weeks to earn full points.

In 11 starts, Holley has nine wins, and in the two races he didn’t win, he finished second. Holley has 11 weeks to try and capture five more victories and a perfect score of 700 points represented by 14 50-point wins.

A trio of drivers from 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN continued their climb to approach the Top 10 on the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points list with three more weeks to earn full points.

Rusty Ballenger of Sevierville, TN drove the Rehel Diesel Special to his third $1,000 win of the season on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN to move up to the 16th spot in the point standings. Ryan King of Seymour, TN finished second and moved up to the 15th position in the point standings, and Adam Beeler of Knoxville, TN finished third and climbed to the 13th spot.

The journey to the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings for Ballenger, King and Beeler, will take a pit stop this Saturday, as 411 Motor Speedway will not be in action. Looming on the schedule at 411 Motor Speedway, however, will be Twin $750-to-win, $75-to-start races on August 9. The first race will be a Week 14 Make-Up Race.

Heath Minor of Ralph, AL grabbed his sixth NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Saturday night at Arkadelphia Speedway in Bremen, AL driving the Mike Minor’s Auto Repair Warrior. That puts Minor in the seventh spot of the point standings, and he has two more weeks to earn full points.

Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL continues to lead the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 667 points after three wins, 12 top five finishes and 16 top ten finishes in 17 races. Gauldin finished fourth on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track to net 22 points driving the Adam Gauldin Racing GRT.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS netted 18 points after driving the Billy Riels Racing GRT to an eighth-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway to move up to the second spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 657 points. Lee has four wins, 15 top five finishes and 18 top ten finishes in 21 races.

Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL finished third on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL to net seven points and bring his best 14 week point total to 644. That dropped the 12-year-old sensation to the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings after three wins, eight top five finishes and 13 top ten finishes in 19 races driving the Skinner’s Body Shop Special.

Daniel Bridgmon of Meridian, MS moved up to the fourth spot in the standings with a best 14 week total of 620 points after driving the Robinson Electric Supply Special to a second-place finish on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park. Bridgmon has three wins, 13 top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 16 races with one more week to earn full points before reaching the 14 week mark.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS is fifth in the standings with 610 points after five wins, ten top five finishes and 13 top ten finishes in the Billy Riels Racing Trak-Star. Daspit finished seventh on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway.

Doug Sanchagrin of Florence, MS did not compete in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 16 competition and dropped to sixth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 587 points. Sanchagrin has three top five finishes and seven top ten finishes driving the Permanent Exterior Solutions Trak-Star.

Minor is seventh with 578 points after six wins, 11 top five finishes and 12 top ten finishes in 13 races. Holley is eighth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings and Henry Pullen of Pittsboro, MS is ninth in the standings with 544 points. Pullen has seven top five finishes and 11 top ten finishes in 12 races driving the Southern Chicks Special.

Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 541 points after two top five finishes and nine top ten finishes in 17 races with one more week to earn full points. Scarbrough earned 41 points with an 11th-place finish on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park driving the Villa South Trak-Star.

Just 41 points separate tenth through 20th in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings, and the coming weeks will see wholesale position changes. Only the top ten drivers in the point standings will collect out of the point fund at the end of the season.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 16 action, dirt late model legend Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR put his name in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series record books after driving the Mark Martin Automotive Rocket to the win on Friday night at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR.

Chris Kratzer of Haysville, KS took his third NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Friday night at Salina Speedway in Salina, KS driving the O’Hara & O’Hara Special. Bronson Berry of Huntingdon, TN drove the Garner Brothers Farms Special to his fifth win of the season on Saturday night at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN.

Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL took his second NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL driving the Joiner Racing Special in a race co-sanctioned by the South Eastern Crate Series.

At Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS on Saturday night, it was Mike Palasini Jr. taking his fifth NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season in the MP Trucking Special. Robby Moore of Brosley, MO grabbed win number three on Saturday night at Poplar Bluff Speedway in Poplar Bluff, MO in the Moore Race Fab Trak-Star.

Moore gave three-time and defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL 22nd win of the season, extending their lead in the standings.

Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV took over sole possession of second in the Manufacturers Challenge standings after Wallace gave them their 17th win of the season. Four-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Champ GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR is third in the standings with 16 wins.

Warrior Race Car built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fourth in the standings with six wins, and CVR Race Cars of Lenoir City, TN is fifth with four wins this season. TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN is also participating in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge and is still looking for their first win of the season.
