The fourth annual Spring Fling 40 at Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA took on a new look this season featuring twin 20 lap events for the Jodeco Auto Sales Late Model division. The new twist in format proved to be a good one for the fans as two of the emerging top dogs in 2014 split the night’s main events. LaGrange’s Dusty Jones won the first round while Thomaston’s Shane Fulcher bested the field in the second go around.
Jones picked up his second win in as many nights of racing this year. The 20-year-old rookie of the year last season picked up the fastest qualifying time of the night inheriting the pole position for the first race. Jones held off fellow LaGrange drivers Dennis Hale and Tod Darda for the entire race. Darda would end up second with Thomaston’s Shane Fulcher in third, Senoia’s Joey Armistead fourth and Hale slipping to fifth.
Hale started on the pole for the second race but lost the lead at the drop of the green flag to Darda, who jumped on top from the outside. Darda was constantly pressured by the pole sitter until Hale pulled off the track on lap 13.

Fortune was not in Darda’s favor as he left the track only one lap later giving the lead to Fulcher. The veteran driver cruised to his first win this season ahead of rookie driver Joey Armistead who was making his first starts at his home track. The first round victor Dusty Jones was third in the second race.
Clifton ‘Hog Head’ Moran has dominated the Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stock division for three straight seasons. Saturday night Moran took his show to the Newnan Bonding B Cadet class. Moran held off former divisional champion Thomas Mewborn for the victory while the previous week’s winner Robert Chandler of Sharpsburg finished third. Peachtree City’s Rick Woodruff and Newnan’s Johnny Stinchcomb completed the first five.
Williamson’s Houston Hatchett took home his first checkered flag of the season in the Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stocks. Hatchett picked up the win over Brooks Kerry Carden and Griffin’s Chad Foster.
Defending Senoia Drug Company Mini Stock champion Bobby ‘Wild Child’ Arnold of Newnan warmed up for his title defense winning his first feature of the year. Arnold held off rookie contender Harold Leath of Griffin. Douglasville’s James Stansel was third ahead of Senoia’s Robert Caldwell and Hampton’s Brandon Brock.
Riverdale’s Mike Ray and Sharpsburg’s Robbie Scadron won the feature races for the A1 Hydraulics Bommber and Modified Minis.
On Saturday, April 12, Senoia Raceway will open its points season in all six weekly divisions. The Legends Cars will also be on the racing card, but will not compete for track points.
