Chase Elliott Scores First Nationwide Victory At Texas

The siren atop Gordon Pirkle’s famed Dawsonville Pool Room screamed loud and proud Friday night.

That’s because one of Dawsonville, GA’s favorite sons added another page to the racing history books, as Chase Elliott scored his first NASCAR Nationwide Series win in the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Elliott powered past leader Kevin Harvick with 16 laps left in Friday night’s race, and then held off Kyle Busch to score the victory.

“It was a phenomenal night,” said Elliott. “It’s an honor to be racing with these guys. Obviously these guys know how to get the job done. They’ve won a lot of races. To race past Kevin (Harvick) for the win and to hold Kyle (Busch) off for there at the end was really cool to me and hopefully we can be able to do that in the future this year.”

The 18-year-old Peach State speedster becomes the second youngest NASCAR Nationwide Series winner, and leaves the Lone Star State with a two point lead in the series points standings over teammate Regan Smith.

Busch finished in second, with Kyle Larson in third, Harvick in fourth and Elliott’s car owner, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in fifth.
