A.J. Maddox moved out front early in Saturday night’s Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprints feature, and went on to lead flag-to-flag to score the victory at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL.

Maddox, Andy Cobb, Mark Ruel, Jr. and Terry Witherspoon scored heat victories, with Maddox and Johnny Gilbertson making up the front row. Maddox was quick to take the lead, but saw it go away when Joe Metcalf slowed to draw the caution on the first lap. Cautions would come out on laps three and four as Kerry Gilbert slowed in turn four and Rebecca George broke the front end and ended her night as well.

Back under green, Maddox held Gilbertson at bay with Tyler Godwin giving chase. Gilbertson would see his night come to an end when he slowed on lap 13, coming to rest in turn three and drawing the caution. Godwin would have his own issues on lap 22, when he spun out of second, bringing out another caution.

On the restart, Maddox worked to hold off Ruel, Jr. and Danny Martin Jr. with just three laps remaining. It looked like Maddox had it in hand until Johnny Alexander spun in turn four, setting up a one lap dash to the win.

Maddox charged back out front, and would stay there to score the victory. Martin, Jr. finished in second, with Ruel, Jr. in third, Sport Allen in fourth and Billy Boyd, Jr. in fifth.

In other action, the first feature of the night was for the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks with William Burnside winning the heat race. For the feature it was Thomas Burnside and Roberto Morfin, Sr. making up the front row. When the green waved Thomas Burnside led the first three laps until caution waved for his brother William spinning in turn two. The green waved once again as Thomas would continue to lead until another caution came out when Michael Eaton spun in turn four. Back under green, Thomas Burnside went on to lead the rest of the way and win his second feature in 2013. Dennis Wilson, Jr. finished in second, with William Burnside third, Buck Woodhouse in fourth and Billy Barstow in fifth.

Up next were the Limited Late Models. Thomas Scott and Roger Crouse won their heats, and the duo would also make up the front row for the feature. Scott would lead the first lap until caution came out as Jason Dyal spun in turn four. When the green waved again, Scott led the next seven laps before caution flew again when Forrest Gough spun in turn three out of the third position. Thomas Scott would go on to win his very first feature at East Bay Raceway Park. Crouse, Dale Pope, Dyal and Gough rounded out the top five, with Pope scoring the 2013 Limited Late Model championship.

The V8 Warriors were the next feature of the night with Bill Whitney and Marco Reyes winning their heats. Don Foligno and Henry Wiley made up the front row for their 15 lap feature event. Don Foligno would lead early, only to see the race slowed twice early by cautions. Back under green, Raymond Vann charged into the lead on lap two. Caution flew again on lap five when Dennis Lewis spun in turn four. Under caution, Vann heading to the pits with an issue, ending his hopes for a feature win. On the restart, Foligno moved back in front with Reyes and Jeff Weaver in pursuit. Weaver would charge to the lead on lap six, but would see his race almost go away after contact from another car sent him around on lap 14. Race officials put Weaver back out front, and we would move away to score the win. Tim Stoffel finished in second, with Brett Phillips in third, Jessica Robbinsin fourth and Henry Wiley in fifth.

The final feature of the night went to the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers. Jimmy Baker and John Moore won their heats, and would lead the field to green. Moore moved out to the early lead, with Baker and Wayne Kissam looking to challenge. The action was hot and heavy, as the trio went three wide off turn four on lap eight. Kissam would take the lead on lap nine, and would work to hold off Moore and Baker for the final three laps to score the win. John Moore came across in second, with George Handy in third, Patrick Fiore, Sr. in fourth and Jimmy Baker in fifth.

ASA racing continues next weekend with its final night of the 2013 season, as the Late Models will run topless for 50 Laps. Also running with a topless option will be the Outlaw Fours. The Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks, V8 Warriors and the Florida Old Time Modifieds will also be racing. For further information, visit eastbayracewaypark.com.
