Pollard, Bowen Top Final World Crown Late Model Practice

The final Late Model practice sessions are in the book for the 28th annual World Crown 300 at Grehsam Motorsports Park in Jefferson, GA.

Senoia, Georgia’s Bubba Pollard set quickest time for the Super Late Models, while fellow Georgian Anderson Bowen was at the top of the speed charts for the Pro Late Models.

Pollard turned a lap at 16.628, 108.251 mph to lead the final practice for Sunday’s World Crown feature.

Chris Wimmer was second on the scoring pylon, with Colt James third, World Crown pole winner Stephen Nasse fourth, and Mike Garvey fifth.

Donnie Wilson, Erik Jones, Ross Kenseth, Casey Smith and David Quakenbusch rounded out the top ten.

Garvey was fastest in the opening Super Late Model practice session, touring the Jefferson half-mile in 16.698, 107.797 mph.  Nasse was second, with Wilson third, Jones fourth and Wimmer fifth.

Dwayne Buggay was sixth, Kenzie Ruston was seventh, Austin Theriault was eighth, James ninth and Andrew Ponstein 10th.

The only scary moment for the Super Late Models came about halfway through final practice, when Rodney Benefield spun his car off turn four, sliding sideways down the frontstretch.

He didn’t make contact with anything, and was able to drive away.

The Super Late Models will not be back in action until Sunday’s World Crown 300 feature.

Anderson Bowen paced final practice for the Pro Late Models as they prepare for tonight’s Beau Slocumb Memorial 100 feature.  Bowen put his car on top of the speed charts with a lap at 16.712, 107.707 mph.

Michael Pilla was second fastest, with Erik Jones third, Jimmy Carter fourth and Willie Allen fifth.

Brandon Jones, Dillon Oliver, Michael Lance, Bubba Pollard and Jeff Fultz rounded out the top ten.

Colt James set fast time the opening round of practice earlier in the morning, turning a lap at 16.863, 106.743 mph.  Allen was second fastest, with Jones third, D.J. Vanderlay fourth, and Pollard fifth.

R.S. Senter, Bowen, Fultz, Russell Fleeman and Oliver ran sixth through 10th.

The only on track incident for the PLM competitors occurred during the first session, when Akinori Ogata looped his car in turn two.  He was able to drive away.

The Pro Late Models return to action later this afternoon with pole qualifying for tonight’s Beau Slocumb Memorial.
