It looked like Bubba Pollard had the pole for Sunday’s 28th annual World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Georgia.

With a lap at 16.135, 111.559 mph, Pollard stayed at the top of the pylon through most of Friday night’s qualifying session.

But then came the last qualifier Stephen Nasse, to rain on Pollard’s parade.

Nasse turned a lap at 16.103, 111.780 mph, and snatched the pole award away from Pollard.

Nasse, of Pinellas Park, FL, had spent much of the previous practice sessions hovering around the top of the scoring charts.

He saved his best lap for last, taking the top spot on the second of two laps.

Pollard would stay second on the chart, with Casey Smith third, Andy Loden fourth and Daniel Hemric fifth.  Erik Jones, Cale Gale, Donnie Wilson, Kenzie Ruston and Steven Dorer rounded out the top ten.

There were several developments leading up to qualifying.  Colt James replaced Jimmy Doyle behind the wheel of the No. 71, turning in the 27th fastest time.

Former driver and current crew chief Ricky Turner climbed back behind the wheel to qualify Chase Elliott’s car, as Elliott is in Phoenix, Arizona for a NASCAR event.  He qualified 26th, but the No. 9 will have to start at the rear of the field with the driver change.

Jeff Fultz and Randy Gentry were penalized for missing roll call at the driver’s meeting and got only one qualifying lap.  Fultz was 25th fastest, while Gentry was 33rd.

T.J. Reaid’s car was heavily damaged in a practice crash, putting the Acworth, Georgia racer out of the World Crown weekend.

Rodney Benefield had a problem on the warm up lap, did not take time.

All cars will start the feature event, as the last chance race originally scheduled for Saturday has been scratched.

The Super Late Models will return to the track for their final practices sessions on Saturday.  For schedule updates and ticket info, visit www.greshammotorsportspark.com.
